Fear of Ageing?

Fear of aging is one of the most common fears there is but where has it come from?

‘Gerascophobia’ – this is the fear of growing old or of old age.

  • Irrational fear of growing old
  • Feeling of panic, anxiety
  • Extreme avoidance measures taken against aging

But first up, why do people fear growing old?

Regardless of how old you areat this moment, the fear of ageing is very common and many feel the very same way you do.
Later life is increasingly presented to us not as heavenly, but as daunting.
Most of us see fine lines and wrinkles with a sense of negativity and elebrity culture makes the situation even worse.

If you feel very negative about aging then you feel pessimistic about your future in general.

Studies of longevity have sdemonstatred that your perception of your health is a much better indicator of how long you will live than your actual health as assessed by a doctor. Positive thinking  can boosts your immune system and increases your life expectancy.

And you know what? You can take advantag of whatever age you are by avoiding smoking , eating right, saving money for retiremnet, sleeping well, exercising.

Here’s some quotes on growing old which I enjoy as no matter what you think, say or do, you are going to grow older. It’s going to happen, whether you like it or not.

“If wrinkles must be written upon our brow, let them not be written upon the heart. The spirit should not grow old.” – James A. Garfield

“You don’t stop laughing because you grow old. You grow old because you stop laughing.” – Michael Pritchard

“Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.” – Mark Twain

And on that note: I see aging as an opportunity to better know myself in conditions that were not there before.

What is my advice?

Simply this… instead of sitting there, scaring and paralyzing yourself with your fear, you might as well embrace it and you certainly don’t grow younger by being afraid of growing old.

Remeber that with age comes wisdom, experience, often a wider circle of loved ones, and more comfort and security in your sense of self. Those are things worth anticipating.

Age is just a number!

And finally, I have no fear! I lead a lifestyle I enjoy….don’t spend your life worrying , ENJOY!
